Description

Meet Daryl, our Head of Engineering. As an integral part of Amiosec’s growth, we wanted to understand how he got to where he is today, grasp his current role, and glean insights into the advice he could offer to individuals embarking on their careers in Engineering.

Daryl’s journey in engineering commenced at a young age. “I have always had an interest in STEM subjects. I enjoyed dismantling things as I found it fascinating to comprehend how different mechanisms operated.” Being a natural problem-solver, his interest steered him towards pursuing STEM subjects at the GCSE level. Despite briefly contemplating a path in business management and finance, he opted for a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Following his graduation, his early career led him to the Automotive industry as a Systems and Calibration Engineer, highly technical roles. As his expertise flourished, he transitioned to Aerospace and Defence, assuming positions as a Team Lead, a Product Line Lead and then Head of Systems Engineering, which involved honing his people management skills while maintaining his technical proficiency.

Now, Daryl has marked over two years at Amiosec as our Head of Engineering. “It feels like the time has flown by! It has been fantastic to have been part of the team for the last few years and see the transformation as the company grows, and I am very excited to see what the future will bring.” He initially focused on project execution, but as Amiosec expanded, his role has evolved to encompass a people-centric approach.

Presently, Daryl is instrumental in bolstering the company’s growing engineering team and implementing processes to underpin Amiosec’s success and ensure customer satisfaction. “Supporting various projects, participating in stand-ups and project meetings, contributing to problem-solving sessions and ensuring our engineers feel supported constitutes a large part of my day-to-day responsibilities.”.

The people and the culture at Amiosec are the highlights of his job. “The collaborative environment, where everyone is genuinely nice and cares about each other makes such a difference and I am keen to ensure as we grow, the great environment we have is retained. It’s a pleasure to wake up in the morning and head to work.”.

His advice to those contemplating Engineering subjects is straightforward: “Simply pursue your passion. Engineering is expansive, offering a myriad of opportunities.” He underscores the perpetual demand for engineers. “You can delve into a variety of industries that can set you up for the future. You’ll never have a shortage of work if you pursue a career in engineering.”.
